As per Mahabharat karna was the first child of Kunti. But as it was conceived before marriage. She let go him in the banks of Ganga to avoid embarrassment & for the pride of virginity.
Karna grew up as a charioter son even though he is Kshtriya. Some where inside he know that he is from royal background but he was not able to solve his birth mystery.
After krishna's negotiations failed miserably Krishna decided to meet Karna the king Angdesh. Karna is also excited to meet Krishna. So he made a royal welcoming arrangements for Krishna. After spending some time as a guest in Angdesh. It was time to leave. Karna came along with Krishna to bid him. Krishna himself was riding the chariot of Karna & they were having a formal discussions.
Once they reached out of the city; Krishna asked Karna to not participate in war against pandvas. As side of the Pandvas is as per dharma & righteous. Though karna knew that Kaurava are not correct he stood with them by refusing Krishna's request politely. So Krishna used his master stroke & revealed actual identity of karna. Karna was in absolute shock after hearing the reality. Mix feeling were flowing inside him ;his eye's were numb but he was not sure is this secret was good for him or not?
So Krishna told him "I know you are in dilemma but it is true. Your brother's also not aware of this ;if they came to know they are having a big brother like you believe me they will serve you. Arjuna will give you more respect then Yudhishthira. Once they conquer Hastinapuri you will be the king of bharat varsha. As per Kuntis order Draupadi will serve you as a husband. Think of it, I am not saying you should fight with Pandvas against Duryoudhana just declare that you are not participating in a war. By hearing this Duryoudhana will not start a war as you are his best warrior. I will make sure fare division will be happen & everything can be sorted out without shedding single drop of the blood. It will be a win win situation for both sides. "
For few moments karna was also convinced but at the next moment he remembered how he was humilated in Hastinapuri & how his beloved friend Duryoudhana supported him by crowning him king of Angdesh. How his mother thrown him away in Ganga. He decided whatever may be he will stand by Duryoudhana in his good & bad time.
Krishna's last attempt to stop the war became useless, while returning from Hastinapuri he went to see Kunti who was staying with Vidur family. He asked her whether she has any message for her children's?
Kunti asked Krishna to retell the story of Vidula & his sons. The story was about son of Vidula who were defeated several times by King of Sindhu & they were very disappointed. Vidula told them to fight for their right until last breath. He told them it is always better to live short but glorious life then long cowheard life. Krishna smiled & returned from Hastinapuri.

- Duryoudhana's trust on Karna can be seen from a story when Duryoudhana, his wife Bhanumati & karna were playing dice. While playing karna came to know Bhanumati is doing some cheating so he hold her hand to stop from cheating. Bhanumati was so frightened as it is considered as evil to touch someone's wife. She thought short tempered Duryoudhana will make this event worse. But to her surprise Duryoudhana actually behave very calmly & ignore it as he knew that Karna was very clean in his heart. Karna decided he will never broke duryoudhana's trust at any cost.
